Film Summary
In 2009, Bay Area filmmaker Kerri Gawryn teamed up with Beats Rhymes and Life to make a film about how youth in Oakland are finding positive and creative ways to cope with adversity and build power through Hip Hop music. Entitled, “A Lovely Day”, the film presents the trials, tribulations, and achievements of a group of youth as they embark on a journey of self-discovery and self-empowerment. Set in the backdrop of Oakland, California, this groundbreaking film provides a touching reminder of what is possible when young people learn to to use Hip Hop as a catalyst for change and development. It also brings to light the issues that many youth in Oakland and urban settings across the country face every single day. Filming on this project began in January 2009, and was completed in September 2009. Currently the film is in its editing phase. The film will premier in September 2012 in Oakland, CA.
